I’ve been very fortunate to have helped many great clients over the years. While each client is unique there are a few commonalities that might help you determine if you would also benefit from my services.
- Most clients are fairly conservative investors, they know the risks it took to become wealthy and now place high value in the safety of their financial & investment plan to maintain their lifestyle indefinitely
- My clients are patient, long term investors committed to having a custom asset management plan to work for the rest of their lives – not short term trading that may or may not work
- Most clients are successful, family oriented, community involved people who love to travel and have life purpose that far exceeds just money and personal belongings.

How I work
I am a Certified Financial Planner®* that proudly acts as a Fiduciary for my clients. This means I have a legal obligation to put clients interests before my own in all recommendations I make.
Each client receives a highly customized plan based upon their unique financial situation and their hopes, dream & goals. We build these plans around life events such as retirement, wealth transfer, business succession planning, and asset protection. My specific area of expertise is working with people who experience a liquidity event such as selling a business or receiving an inheritance; though I have a great team with unique expertise in tax planning, investment management, and risk management.
As is hopefully evident by my blog – I communicate regularly with clients via technology (email is my preferred communication medium). My experience has taught me that it is very, very difficult for financial advisors and investment managers to actually perform their job if they are on the phone or in meetings all day, every day. Thus I restrict how many meetings I hold each week, blocking out time for research and review for my clients.
I visit with each client no less than once per year, although it usually is 2-3, and provide unlimited email support between meetings. Some of my clients are local to Wisconsin & Vermont (where I have offices) and happily will meet in person – but many are from all over the United States, coast to coast actually, and we work together virtually. Under this arrangement we use web conferencing, phone, and email to regularly communicate. Depending on the situation I will even fly to meet with clients, regardless of their location.
Working with a financial advisor without having to drive to their office is actually very easy and convenient. Meetings can be done from the comfort of your home or office while we still see each other over the computer screen while simultaneously being able to review financial matters.
My firm is comprised of a wonderful team of support staff that makes phone contact simple and easy anytime it is needed, though I’m not typically the person that answers the phone or performs phone based support.
If you’re the type of person that likes to talk frequently via telephone with me personally for no specific purpose then we probably are not a good fit. My experience is that frequent telephone conservations without prearranged objectives is counter productive from helping clients do the best they can with the resources they have – which is one of my primary objectives in my work. Phone appointments, however, are highly productive and always welcome. Especially when a clearly communicated objective is at hand.
All clients have 24/7 secure online access to their accounts. My firm invests heavily in technology to provide clients with real time account alerts and monitoring to ensure all planning is done at the time it is needed, rather than the reactionary way many advisors provide support.
What I charge
As you may have noticed my fee schedule is clear and transparent. I can charge in a variety of ways depending on the needs and preference of my clients. We strive to keep costs as low as possible, so clients can keep more of their money to work for them (the way it should be).
When we manage accounts it is done so via an independent custodian and we never (ever) take custody of client assets. This is important as it protects investors from fraud and theft. It also ensures I never make a commission for transactions since I am not a representative of any financial custodian. Our client's assets are held with National Financial Services (NFS) which is a Fidelity company.
What I do for clients all over the United States
Before ever working together in a business relationship I find it is very important my clients and I get along, that we share similar values and philosophies on life. This promotes a relationship built on trust, which is how they should start if we are going to work together. Good financial planning and investment management is the byproduct of a strong relationship built on trust, education, and understanding the bigger picture.
I've made it my priority to structure my firm and services in a manner that gives clients personal attention and financial management support. I am constantly pushing myself to through endless learning and a willingness to adapt and improve as life happens.
By embracing technology I’m happy to work with investors all over the United States. We have a wonderful web-based virtual meeting program that allows me to work with clients in a very personal manner despite being hundreds or even thousands of miles apart. If you’ve never thought about working with an advisor virtually – I think you’d be pleasantly surprised how easy, efficient, and enjoyable it can be. For those of you who live close to my offices in Wisconsin & Vermont I am happy to meet in person as well.
